These fine specimens, seen by millions, are descendants of Spanish cattle brought to Mexico by Cortez in 1525. They overran Texas in the sixties while 'ranch hands' fought the Civil War. After the war, 'cow-soldiers' became 'cowboys' and trail drivers. They rounded them up and herded them to market at Abilene, Kansas, the end of the west-bound railroad and rendezvous of Wild Bill Hickok, famous frontier marshal and rifleman.
