Vintage color photochrome postcard featuring BALCLUTHA—the last Cape Horner at San Francisco, California.
Front view shows the Balclutha's bow and rigging with visitors ascending the gangway at left, the ship moored at Pier 43 with waterfront warehouses to the right; glossy finish.
Front/back caption: BALCLUTHA—the last Cape Horner... Historic world trader, last of the great Cape Horn fleet, member of the famous Alaska Packers "Star" ship flotilla; 5:SF-55. In 1954 the 68-year-old Balclutha was restored to her original 1886 glory through the remarkable community effort of 18 Bay Area labor unions, 90 business firms and under the guidance of the San Francisco Maritime Museum Association. Some 13,000 hours of free labor from the unions, over $100,000 in supplies and services from the business firms and the good will of all San Francisco make Balclutha's restoration symbolic of good will and co-operation along San Francisco's waterfront. Open to visitors at Pier 43. Back printing includes: MIRRO-KROME CARD BY H. S. CROCKER CO., INC., SAN FRANCISCO; PUB. BY SMITH NEWS CO., 219 7TH ST., S.F. CALIF.; stamp box printed "Place Stamp Here".
